For my Capstone, I decided to study Spanish. Growing up in St. Louis Spanish wasn't really necessary on my day to day, so in school I decided to study some German. As luck would have it, I later lived in two Spanish speaking countries, both Nicaragua and Ecuador, for over year at a time. Therefore, to no surprise, I fell in love with the language, culture and people in Latin America. I felt compelled to learn the language, not just to speak with others but to also understand the lyrics of the Reggaeton and Urban Latino music I became obsessed with. To feed my passion while learning, I visited Peru, Guatemala, and Colombia (Twice to Colombia, because one wasn't enough). My interest grew so much it bled over to my other studies; I took classes on the International Relations of Latin America, and began to pay attention to the politics of Latin American as a whole. So when taking my classes, I was more than prepared to give a short monologue about an issue I truly believed in that was happening in Puerto Rico. Check it out!
