Global Learning Courses
Contemporary Problems of International Relations
This course addressed one of the most enduring conflicts of our generation, Terrorism. Coming from the Military just years ago, this topic was very intriguing and really put into perspective not just what we should consider a terrorist to be, but what it is that drove them to such an extreme
International Protection of Human Rights
This course was one of my favorites, because it touched on a conflicts we too often do not know enough about. One of the main points of the course was discussing the atrocities of Bosnia-Herzegovina. A topic I knew little about even though I grew up in St. Louis, where there is the worlds largest population of Bosnians outside of Bosnia itself.
Studies in World Religions
I was particularly engaged in this class out of pure fascination of all the other religions in the world and their both likeness, and uniqueness. Taking this course not only gives you knowledge of religions of the world, but helps you understand the followers of that religion, gaining new respect for others traditions, and beliefs.
Practical Application
Veteran Affairs Vocational Rehab. Work-Study
This experience allowed me to mentor Veterans who recently separated from active duty and are transitioning into being a student at FIU. The opportunity to meet veterans old and young, from different branches and different jobs, as well as from different places, even countries really made the it a learning opportunity for each of us.
Sigma Iota Rho International Honors society
Being in Sigma Iota Rho was a wonderful experience that I believe even if you don't want to join you should attend their events, from panels on women's health and security in the world, to coffee chats on Brexit, there is a plethora of informative events that take place right at FIU. One of my favorite events was a Food drive we did where we had a booth and helped inform curious students about the severity of food insecurity in the world.
Department Of State Inter. at U.S. Embassy in Cotonou Benin
This is by far my most favorite experience thus far. The ability to work in an Embassy is such a fantastic opportunity in itself that I'm sad I cant share everything since I'm still currently working. However, I was recently able to go to the Ghana National Day event hosted by the Ghanaian Embassy and had the pleasure to meet the Ghanaian Ambassador after he gave a informative speech about Ghana's history and where it's plans to go.
